CA72 Air cleaner - replacement?

Post by wombat200 » Fri Jun 16, 2006 3:22 am

Hi All - I have an early CA72 & the entire air cleaner assembly is missing.

I'm thinking of replacing it with a simple K&N style foam pod - After all, it will be completely hidden inside the frame & behind the alloy covers that sit either side of the carb.

Anyone tried this? I'm thinking I may have to clamp a small extension tube to the carb in order to place the filter adjacent to the servicing hole behind the side cover - just for conveniance when it comes time to clean the filter.

Thoughts?

I cured my air filter issue by using a K&N RU-0160 Universal Rubber Filter. They run about $35.00USD, but you can clean and reuse them forever. It clamps right on to the carburetor and is hidden beneath the carb covers so no one knows anyway. The only down side I see, is that there is no accomodation for the valve vent tubes.

I recommend the filter below which is about $10 plus shipping. It fits right on the carb air intake. You don't even have to tighten the hose clamp. The original air filter is a pain in the *** to get in the bike and connected at the carb and the filter and like the others said it doesn't even show!
