Before you say "check your float level" please know that I read the ENTIRE long thread on this, and double checked both the LM eyeball method and the Silver 22.5mm and am 99% certain the float level is correct.
So, what other ideas do you have?
The gasket looks ok, and the bowl is closing tight with the swing arm.
It's a slow drip, but not a torrent, and it doesn't drip when running. Idling yes, running no.

Did that, and its sound.
I shouldn't have done it, but I tweaked the tangs just a tiny bit down, put the bowls back on and now I just have a little seepage if the bike is parked and not running with the petcock on.
I think I can live with it as is, as I took if for a spin and my hesitation problem is gone.
At idle and running, there is no dripping. Parked with petcock off, nothing but some moisture. Parked with petcock on is trouble.
I think I found a compromise by tweaking the float level. Hope I don't end up too lean or something.
PS For anyone familiar with my "Give me a reason not to quit" posting, it looks like a sticking slide, needles on the wrong setting, and some clogged inline filters were the root of the problem with starting and hesitation.
Starts on 3-5 kicks at 40 degrees now, idles around 1,500 smooth, and runs without hesitation or restriction.
Got the cam oil seal in hand - changing it tomorrow as soon as I get the stripped screw off the points cover.
Thanks again to everyone that sent advice and encouragement.

re: addicted
If you think you've got the addiction bad and we are all enablers, just wait till it warms up.
I just bought another CB 77 yesterday- my wife informed me today that there will be no more bikes in the basement. (There are 6 down there now, but 2 of them dont count since they are my son's and his girlfriends.)
