Throttle Cable Removal

Post by sstaylor » Sat Jun 03, 2006 7:03 pm

Greetings,

I have a '68 cb77, and I need to replace the throttle cable. Can anyone here provide directions on how to do this? I have manuals on order, but I'd like to get this done soon. I already have a replacement cable.

TIA,
Scott

Open throttle clamshell, remove old cable end. Remove gas tank and release cable from its ties. Remove both carb tops, pull out carb slides, release cable ends from slides. Reverse process to install new cable. Take up slack at carb tops and/or throttle clamshell. Check that slides close fully and that they open simultaneously when twisting throttle grip. Check again for smooth cable action after tank is reinstalled.

Q: How to Remove Slides

Post by 305explr » Tue Apr 24, 2007 8:47 pm

My question is, when I try to remove my carb slides from the top of the carbs so I can remove the cable, I can't get them to rise above flush with the threads of the carb tops. Is something stuck and will be freed with additional soaking, or do I have to loosen something else before pulling?

Thanks,

Andy

explr, Your slides should come right out the top, I'd soak 'em a bit. Steve Greer
