slides down high revs

Post by drab » Tue Nov 22, 2011 1:17 am

I recently cleaned and switched out some carb pieces: gaskets, main jet, slide and air screws.....etc.
After replacing everything and doing the timing recipe according to the FAQ's I started the bike and immediately the bike reved up to 6000 RPM and stayed there.

The slides are down, move in synch and return when the throttle is twisted.
The slide screws are all the way out. And the cutout in the slides are facing the rear.
The throttle cable seems to routed correctly.

So what could cause the high idle? The slides are down and seated while the idle is high!

My guess has to be something with the needle and main jet or slow jet allowing way too much fuel into the engine....

Suggestions would be incredibly helpful.....

the needles are clipped into the slide, second highest clip groove on the needle. They move up and down when the throttle is twisted.

I was thinking.... obviously I made some error in putting it all back together, but since both sides are revving so high there is some consistency to the error. So what was done to one, must have been done to the other.

thx again for the help.

Is there slack in the throttle cable? You should be able to twist the throttle a bit before you feel the cable start pulling up the slides.

there isnt a lot of slack and there is only a very slight twist before the slides start moving up. But the idle is high regardless of the slide position
The adjustment screws are in all the way on the top of the carb as well. Same set up as before I disassembled.

I am thinking according to LM that there may be something up with the needle and the jets. I used Keyster kits and I have heard fairly unreliable feedback....Maybe I need to switch back to originals and see what happens then...

Exact Same

I'm experiencing the exact same symptoms. I changed back to original carb parts. Same result. In addition, on a cool day, not cold, it won't start choked. Take the choke off and starts first kick, then proceeds to race. Fellas, we're missing something here.

Yes, worth a try. LM was reffering to the needle jet. Located under the main jet nozzle, and pressed into the carb body. Your sure the slides are bottomed?
