Anyone used Permatex or J-B Weld Tankweld ?

Hi

Has anyone on the Forum experience of using Permatex Fuel Tank Repair Kit or J-B Weld Tankweld Repair Kit with modern fuel containing ethanol ?

I have found a pinhole in a steel tank that was lined ( POR-15 ) and painted a year or so ago. Metal around it seems OK and ideally it should be welded or silver soldered but the heat would probably ruin the liner and wouldn't do the paint a lot of good either.

The products above claim to be resistant to modern fuel but searching online I can't find any direct reference to ethanol. Neither are generally seen in the UK but I can get them if needed.

I have used regular j-b stick to repair gas tanks with success so far.

From the insert in the package:

"Chemical resistance: Resistance to hydrocarbons, ketones, alcohols, esters, halocarbons, aqueous salt solutions, dilute acids and bases"

I can only guess the Tankweld would be even better?

I've used the 2 tube JB WELD on many fuel parts and never a problem.
If you have a pin hole you may want to place the round end of a Ball Pen hammer at the hole and tap it with another hammer.
This will make a small valley area where the JB will lever out and make a resonable contact area.
Be sure to place the tank so that area of the tank is level. .............lm

Thanks for the advice, will go with the JB Weld ( ideally the Tankweld or maybe the Steelstick if easier to get ). Will put a little petrol in once done and see if anything comes out over a week with the tank on the bench.
