Stripped bottom bolt petcock bowl.

Post by deafanddiabetic » Fri Apr 17, 2015 11:14 am

I'm sure others have ran into this, too.

The bottom bowl aluminum "bolt" on my petcock is so mangled and rounded that vice grips are the only way to get it spinning.

Honestly, I just bypass the petcock entirely by a shut off valve and hose coming from the tank so the petcock isn't even being used, but I want to find a way to "plug that hole".

I just took the tank apart for painting and don't really even want to put that petcock back on. Besides welding over the hole, anybody have a suggestion for closing off that section or maybe replacing that bottom bolt bowl?

Hi deafanddiabetic
I just restored a Scrambler tank. I had to drill a hole in the bottom of it to knock a big dent out of the top of the tank. Welding on a tank is time consuming and can be dangerous. Those bowls are a dime a dozen. I'd shoot some PB Blaster into the threads and let it set a bit. Then I'd get hold of the body of the bowl with my vise grips and deliver a sharp rap with my brass mallet. Then I'd throw the thing in the recycle bin and wait for the mail man to bring me a new one.

Haha, I didn't realize they were so easy to come by. All the ones on eBay right now are going for $150 to $500. Seriously!

And actually, the bowl is off just fine. A little PB and some force got her twisting, I just don't want to put it back on if I don't have to.

Any sources for those bowls? I'd buy another if need be.

I just ordered one from David Silver Spare along with a bunch of other stuff and I think it was 8 to 10 dollars.

I think I am wrong. Sorry. DSS shows them for my bike, a CB77 but not for the CA77. I guess with the Single carb verses the dual carb they might be a different size. I need to leave the answering part of the forum to the experts.

I apologize, I forget that our bikes don't show up on the left under the name.

I am looking for a carb bowl for a CA72.
