fouled plugs

Post by speleogeezer » Mon Jul 25, 2005 1:00 pm

Hi Folks,
Now that my no spark problem is solved I can return to my original problem of fouled plugs. I tore down the carb and found goop (permagasket or something) along with the rubber seal for the float bowl. no more leak once I got rid of the goop. Everything is clean inside so I moved the clip for the needle valve up one slot. Still fouling. Maybe tomorrow I will boil the float to see if there are any pin holes in it. Next I will try bending the tab on the float which allows the float valve to open or not and how much to open. If anyone sees a problem with the please let me know. Thanks.
Bob
Well, I boiled the float, no holes. I then bent the tab on the float that controls the float valve. Looks good. much less fouling. rode 20 ft and blew the fuse. YYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
Later.
Bob
float should be at 26.5mm setting to start. Did you rebuild carb. I rebuilt my carb and plugs fouled so I moved the clip up one notch and the bike runs great!Sounds like your still too rich.

Flyhaven2001,
Thanks. I've been trying to find that setting number. I know I saw this somewhere before but can't find it now (probably from an email). From where to where do I measure?
I'm hoping that the blown fuse is either just an anomaly or because it was a 14 amp fuse where the wireing diagram says it should be 15 amp. I'll keep you informed.
Bob

Measure from the rim of the carb not where the the gasket is. That float setting I feel is a good starting point , but do to the age of our bikes and other factors you may have to alter it to your needs. I think I have mine set alittle off of that # and bike runs fine.

Folks,
Now my plugs are a healthy shade of sand. I rode it about 40 miles today. So now it has 1164 miles. I love this bike. This winter--new paint. I'll see if I can figure iut hw to get a pic in here or on the gallery. OK, let's see if my attachment works. This is a pic from the ebay listing. I'll try to get another close up. later.
Bob
