I have used this stuff to repair threads. It works if you don't need to torque the bolt real tight.

It's a two part epoxy you put on the stripped threads, there is a release agent that goes on the good threads. After it cures, you can remove the bolt or tighten it. It might be something to try if your solution doesn't work. I wouldn't trust it as a permanent fix. I found it at auto parts stores.
