Kigsby,

The carb you mentioned from ebay, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-305-Dream ... es&vxp=mtr, may be more "correct" as far as original issue is concerned since it is the round bowl model, but not sure if there would be any other improvements to your bike than that.

LM,
the shiny carb from ironangles pic is the square bowl, right?

Looks to be the square issue.
Looking at this one I'd say someone put a CB/CL72/77 fuel banjo on it rather than the straight brass issue. .........lm

Mine looks just like the shiny one (from ironangel's pic) and it's a square bowl. The one on ebay looks just like mine except it has the banjo inlet instead of the brass plug. If that's the only difference, I don't see any advantage of getting the one on ebay over keeping mine other than I have no idea what to order for parts! The carb rebuild kit I bought had a few washers left over, which now I realize were probably for that banjo. Not sure what to do....get the one on ebay and sell mine, just buy a banjo for mine, or just leave it the way it is and locktite the brass plug to the carb. I just wonder if this carb originally came with this bike back in '62 and if I keep it, what about ordering replacement parts? Just order the CA77 kit and just not use the washers?

Your carb will work as soon as ya get it tuned in. (standard jets and needle should work)
The inlet tube can be hammered/tapped into the body and shouldn't leak.
Gas valves are pressed in also. (no sealer)
The carb Is Not the one the engine was issued with.
Back in the time when HONDA needed more parts manufactured to meet the demand some parts had changes made to them. (that stopped when Mr. HONDA died) ................lm

The only parts you are likely to need (if any) are the bowl gasket and possibly the float valve set.

Those parts are the same as those for the 1969-1976 Honda CB750K models and possibly available from local honda dealer (thats where I got mine).

Everything else should be re-useable unless damaged.

Well that was an interesting lesson on carbs! I want to thank you all for your help and information. I can add my carb on the list of things that just isn't going to match my manuals! I think for now I'll just stick with the one I have and fix the plug.

And don't spend a year or more, like I did, looking for the place to put the 2.8mm o-ring shown in the parts diagram!

Some original air screws were issued with them and some not.

Sometimes I think I can hear Mr Honda going "tee-he-he-he, wait till they try to figure this out 50 years from now!"
