Petcock Screws- size again...

Post by hondadreamca77 » Mon Nov 12, 2012 2:25 pm

Hi,

I've read the thread on screw size for the CA77 petcock (6m x 25 is stated as correct size). I ordered three this size from a Honda parts guy and they are too BIG..... Anybody out there know what other sizes Honda may have used on a 1967 CA77 petcock?? I had to drill out the old screws so they are just nubs and too short to measure (I took them to a specialty screw and bolt place). I don't want to take a chance and mess up the threads inside the tank so I'll keep ordering screws till I get the right ones....as someone said, they're cheap compared to messing up the tank threads.

Anyone?

Just checked a 1962 tank.

Those are M5s so probably M5 x 0.9 x 25 (JIS)

The JIS thread is finer than a modern ISO thread.

Thanks Sir! You concur with Ohio Cycle whom I called yesterday about this.
