Thanks! Going to swap in new one and see.

Will check that wire in the process, as the new fancy one requires some rewiring.

Still trying to figure out why I have a low output CB72 rotor in this bike.

I suspect the rectifier will finally slay this demon, as I have been blowing fuses as well.

Once this is fixed, the bike is basically a rider - Can't wait!

The rotor in my CA77 also says CB77 as does the rotor from another CA77E motor I have. I think they're all the same. Just a big magnet.

Ok, the new fancy rectifier is in from Charlie's Place. The directions were a bit hard to follow, but I think I got it right.

Bike fired up on two kicks, which is unusual.

Idled with lights on for 15 mins.

Got on and rode for 15 mins, no trouble.

Stopped for 10 mins with light running, then took off to get food.

Rode 10 mins. Parked and went in for 20 mins.

Came out, it fired on one kick, rode home 10 mins.

No trouble at any point.

Soooooo... maybe its fixed??

That is about four times as long as the longest i have gone without the hesitation kicking in.

The bike still will not idle reliably under 1800 RPM, but that is obviously something else.

Great to see progress being made on this!
I haven't been commenting but I've been eagerly reading and hoping.

Have you checked the entirety of the carb settings regarding the high idle?
what elevation are you at?

Thanks! I need all the encouragement I can get.

I am on the third needle setting because the recommended second setting made the engine race (throttle cable too short?) and I could not bottom the slides out with the adjusters.

Should I be concerned about that?

The float levels were set to spec, and then raised slightly to manage leaking bowls.

I can slow the engine down to 1500 or below with the adjuster screws, but it runs rough and will stall.

It is especially prone to drop way down and stall if you rev up (slow or fast) to about 4000, and then let go suddenly. It comes down and then goes way down to 700ish, threatens to stall, and then bounces back to the original setting - in my case ~1800.

Air screws are at 3/4 due to my pod filters and general lean condition. Setting them to 1 and 1/4 does not affect my situation - tried that.

Mains are stock 135s, drilled out to 150ish.

Fresh plugs, gapped. A little lighter brown than I would prefer but not bad.

Other than overheating, is there any long term danger of an 1800 idle?

The bike has great power and acceleration as is - at least compared to my CB160 :)

Sorry, I am at 105 feet, and ride between about 25 and 200. Lots of hills in the neighborhood.
