Right carbs valve sticks on full throttle

Post by Spargett » Fri Nov 28, 2008 10:10 pm

I just replaced my throttle cable, and threw on a "new" set of carbs. Everything is great and smooth as butter, but I've noticed that the right carb's valve gets stuck if I pull back the throttle COMPLETELY. The only way to un-stick the valve is to rock the throttle cable at the top of the carb, at which point it drops right back down.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Note: I just rebuilt the carbs and the throttle cable is brand new. The bike is a 62 CB77 with a pair of 64 carbs.

You may have the nuts a little tight on that carb, back them off a bit and see if it helps.

I loosened the nuts up and it seems to have fixed the problem. I haven't been able to replicate it sticking since, so we'll have to see over time. But I'm 90% that was it. Such simple things it can be sometimes. Thanks for the tip ; )

How loose would you say is acceptable? Do you think the ability to turn the nut by hand without moderate difficulty too loose?

Spargett, The seal is just a rubber O-ring so you just need to have it good an snug. No need to crush it.

Scott, sweeeet looking machine! Post more pics? I like the chromed fork covers.

Just nip-up the carbs' rings to fingertip tight. As rgt2 says, they just need to be snug. Glad the carbs have worked out well for you.

Rgds,

Steve
