Keyster Carb Kit came with 100 mains

Post by byrdman76 » Mon Sep 22, 2008 10:49 am

A brought a couple of Keyster Carb Kits for my 66 CB77 and it came with 100 mains instead of 135's. I know that not all jet manufacturers will use the same unit for measure and the actual hole in the jet will be the same in for both jets even though they have a different number stamped in the jet - or vise versa.

Does any one know if this is true for these kits or have any experience with the Keyster rebuild kits. I have 145's in the bike now (thats what it came with) and the bike is obviously running pretty rich. I'm running Emgo pipes and stock air filters. I was considering running the 100's but figured I would ask before I went too far.

The needles in the Keyster kits were a little larger as well - has anyone noticed this? I pretty much used the bowl gasket, drain washer, and needle and seat since most of what came with the kit was different. I'm just not sure how many components are actually original in my carbs.

Was there a jet kit available that had thinner needles by chance?

Thanks,

Byrd

Well I think I found the problem.

The kit was listed as a CB72/77.

Did the CB77 ever come with 100mains? Probably why the needle is bigger as well with the kit...

Oh well time to get some 135's somewhere.

Sounds like you used what is actually usable in the Keyster kits. You will want to track down 135 mains. I think one can still get them from Honda. The needles should be stamped with the keihin K and #s, 2324 or something close to that I don't remember exact #s.

Thanks for info Davomoto.

Retro bikes is going to swap the kits out and get me the correct parts - These guys have GREAT customer service BTW. They are also going to change the listing for CB72 bikes only - for newbs like me that don't pay attention to jet sizes when ordering!

Live and learn...

The needles still won't be correct, and the jets are iffy. I've used the jets with varying results, but the needles are unusable. Check to see if the ones that you have are indeed the stock ones, and stick with those. I agrre that retro bikes is awsome. Great parts, great prices, and excellent service, a rarity these days!
