how to remove throttle cable from ca77 carb

on my 67 dream, got the cap off top of carb and cable disconnected from slide valve, but how do you get the throttle cable out of the cap? is there a retaining clip, if I pull on it it moves 1/8 inch

The cable should just pull out. Maybe there's some dirt or corrosion holding it. A little bit of penetrating oil or heat should get it moving.
