Re: CB77 Crankshaft repair

First job was to see if I could successfully thin the hardened connecting rods with my Dumore toolpost grinder in my little Myford lathe. I clamped the rods to my trued faceplate and managed to work on two at a time with a rather praecarious set up. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49433556037_39...

Re: CB77 Crankshaft repair

In the last week or so, I finally got around to an idea I've had for some time. I heard that this had been done before but wanted the challenge of seeing if I could work out a modification of my own to rescue cranks with big-end failure or corroded crank pins. Honda's design for these cranks means t...

Re: '67 CL77 Petcock MAIN standpipe height??

That extra barb is a connection for a crossover tube that connected both sides of the tank together. It was thought that you had to connect both sides of the tank to get all of the fuel out but, in practice, it sloshes aboout enough to make the crossover unnecessary. Honda removed the connection on ...

Re: CL77 Speedometer Question

I'm with the leave it alone if it's working camp. I was just offering ideas on how to make it look better. :-) As for the bezel. The CB72/77 bezels are brass and can be annealed once stripped for re-chroming. I am making a press tool to repair damaged ones and once they are annealed and straigtened ...

Re: CL77 Speedometer Question

The face looks pretty tired regardless of the stain. Best to pull it apart and find a better face or get an overlay for that one.

Re: 1963 CYP77

My great friend, Les, who has studiously learned the art of metal polishing, has a tame chrome plater in the City of Birmingham, UK. He gets a one-day turnaround. If he takes items in for stripping at 9am, they are ready for collection at 4pm the same day. The parts get taken home and polished in hi...

CB77 Crankshaft repair

I was searching through my pile of crankshaft spares and found a usable CB77 centre-section. I stripped and cleaned that before re-assembling with a nice pair of con-rods which I fitted with fresh bearings. All was well until I needed to find an alternater-side crank web and shaft. https://live.stat...
