Sorry Kamloopsendo,
Should have said remove the worm gear by tapping from the cable end so that it exits through the opening where the brass end cap goes, as you will see from the picture there is a shoulder on the worm gear which stops it going out of the cable end.

Speedo drive disassembly
Hi Kamloopsendo, The pinion won't come off until the worm gear drive is removed. The dismantling procedure I used is as follows, remove the small brass grub screw and pull off the brass end cover/bush from the worm drive housing, tap the worm drive shaft through the opening so that it exits via the ...

Re. Marking on points cam
Loud Mouse is of course correct but a bit more explanation may be useful to less experienced forum users. Cam timing is set with the right side piston at top dead centre, the O on the cam sprocket vertical with respect to the mid line of the cylinders and in this position on the 180 degree CB motors...

What's your odometer reading?
Hi, My 1964 CB77 has 48,000 miles on the clock 40,000 of which I put on. In that time apart from consumables such as points, tyres, brake shoes, drive chain and sprockets it has also had a new camchain, kick-start shaft, roller set and bushing in the gear box, a known weakness with these engines. It...

Paintwork looks really good. I have always liked the Scarlet Red and have decided to go for that on my 1964 CB72 which I'm currently restoring. I always thought it was Black since it's been that colour since I acquired it in 1972, but on stripping it down I found traces of the original Royal Blue. I...

Hi,
Interesting post. My 1964 CB77 has a similar set up to yours with pinch bolts to the front brake and retaining bolts on the rear. It also has a wiring harness with a 1963 date tag. It's a UK bike. I wonder if Honda had some over production of parts which they carried over to the next year?

G-man, In my case it was obvious after replacing the seal and refilling with oil that something serious was wrong as the top end sounded horribly noisy and oil and smoke were pumping out of the engine breather at tick over. A top end strip revealed two broken compression rings on one cylinder which ...
