Make sure both slides are in the correct way around(cutouts toward the air cleaners) The carburetor tops are different for left and right, they need to be on the correct side to keep the cables from binding.

The timing may be 180° out. When the timing pickup is aligned with the marks, the intake/exhaust rockers should be slightly loose(valves closed). If both rockers are tight it is on the exhaust stroke.

You could use a Zener diode to regulate the out put, like the britt bikes do.

You could maybe wire a big capacitor across the battery terminals, like the sixties era Britt bikes did. My '68 TR6, with the lucas capacitor, makes sparks just fine with no battery installed. 2-3 kicks with the switch off to charge it up, then kick it with the switch on. You may want to unplug the ...

The camshaft locking bolt has a tapered head that expands the id of the camshaft a few thousandths to grip the center. I believe the 2nd and 3rd gear ratios are different. Swapping gears around could be a problem. The whole transmission assembly should be a drop-in fit though.
