That 350/400 4 cylinder engine is heavy and not very powerful, but I have to say it makes a nice looking bike. The frame with the 2 front down tubes doesn't have as much eye appeal as the frame that uses the 4 cylinder engine as a frame member, like this one: http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab227...

NOS is 'New Old Stock', a new, unused part. I don't think there were any pressed steel CB77 frames, and I think the brakes were the same part through the whole production. Many engine parts interchange between the CL77 and CB77, but the CL was kick start only, so no starter stuff and even the cranks...

If neither the 32 or 30 seem right, maybe a 31- Sprocket Specialties now appears to be Sprocket Specialists, and they list 28 to 71 tooth sprockets:

It sounds like you have a pretty good idea of the answer, but, my opinion, if you modify a motorcycle with the intent of selling it, the best route is a 'period correct' set of mods.
