You might want to do a cylinder compression test before digging into the engine.
It'll help you narrow down the cause of the problem.

Just wanted to make sure there was no confusion on the fork boot clamps.
As Ed pointed out to me, "there was a change at (frame number) 1043097 which deleted the clamps and changed the top and bottom of the gator".
I should have known he wouldn't have missed something so obvious anyway.

The front fork rubber boot clamps are missing.
Both the early steel sliders and the late aluminum sliders (late like yours) had wire clamps on the top and bottom of the fork boots.

Ed corrected me..... the clamps were discontinued on the LATE late bikes, my mistake.

Excellent post on Xing transmissions, doing it today to a 337 engine I 'm building.
Had a 305 racer with a crossed transmission and liked it better than stock but never did it myself before.

Levee ride

Went for a ride this morning on the shoreline roads along Lake Pontchartrain to the area where there were lakehouses almost side-by-side before Hurricane Katrina destroyed them all. A couple of them have been rebuilt but mostly all that's left are the pilings that they sat on. The Scrambler ran grea...
