Re: Cyllinder sleeve replacement tips

Thanks.
My experience was the same. I went to all the trouble to set the cylinder up in a press, heated the cylinder with a butane torch and the sleeves slid out with minimum pressure. Live and learn.

Cyllinder sleeve replacement tips

I'm about to press out a bad sleeve from my 305 and replace it with a sleeve from another 305. Aside from 'heat and press', any tips appreciated. Once the sleeve is pressed far enough out so that the lower section of the sleeve is flush with the cylinder's lower mating surface, is it necessary to us...

Re: 1969 CA77 Fuel or Electrical

If the springs which control the centrifugal advance unit are broken or very weak that could cause the timing to go full advance even when the engine is idling, causing the jump in rpm. Perhaps others with more experience with 305s could opine on this. My first guess would be the carb, though. There...

Re: 1967 305 CL77 Engine

Here's what we did on our Yamaha XS650 (750) race bikes, engines similar to the 305: To remove the top end without pulling the engine we cut screwdriver slots in the tops of the studs. Re: CB Tranmission in CA cases??

Transmission shafts fit fine, but final gearing of the two bikes is quite different, so a larger rear sprocket is needed. The CB gears with back-cut dogs and much better than the CA gears.

Re: Freeing up 'Frozen' 305 Pistons

Good info, thanks. This particular CB engine had been sitting under the house for at least 20 years, and probably somewhere else before that. Plugs had also been removed. I spent a few weeks heating it and squirting various concoctions into the cylinders to no avail. After all the aggravation I had ...

CB Tranmission in CA cases??

As most of you know, the Dream's gearing is very short and 1st gear is almost useless. However, I have a very nice CB transmission (with back-cut gears!) and was thinking of using that in the Dream. Anyone ever do this? Any thoughts?
