I think the early brake shoes are deeper so will work with the shorter, fatter springs. You probably need the longer ones if you have the later type. G
Re: Brake shoe and brake arm springsWithout pictures it is a little more difficult but if the thicker springs fit, I would use those. As for the brake arm springs. The 'knuckle' on the bottom of the kickstart lever drives a splined shaft from the engine and is a 'loose' sliding fit. If the spline gives way you will get the symptoms you describe.
