I think the early brake shoes are deeper so will work with the shorter, fatter springs. You probably need the longer ones if you have the later type.

Without pictures it is a little more difficult but if the thicker springs fit, I would use those. As for the brake arm springs. Single coil at the front, double at the rear. This picture shows '61 rear brake panel and later types compared. '61 has the fatter, shorter springs. https://live.staticflic...

Welcome to the Forum! There are a couple of problems with the kickstarters on these bikes. The 'knuckle' on the bottom of the kickstart lever drives a splined shaft from the engine and is a 'loose' sliding fit. If the spline gives way you will get the symptoms you describe.
