I haven't done this in a while but, I always had better luck using the cork packing. Also, it is really important to clean out the hole in the body so that the shaft on the fuel cock plate moves easily in it. A while back I spent some time looking into this. As I recall Ohtsu and Nitto were the original brands. It seems to me that the Nitto's were narrow white wall and the Ohtsu were wide but, Jim's CA77 seems to contradict that if his tires are original though, that wouldn't answer the question about wh...

JIS taps
I recall looking at my Craftsman tap & die set from the 70's and recall being surprised to find it had the JIS thread pitches included in the set. IIRC I also looked at a couple new tap and die sets on eBay that also had the JIS-pitch taps and dies.

Search this site . As LM points out, you have given a engine number, not a frame number. Look left side down below and in front of where the swing arm connects. Number will be stamped vertically into the frame. If your engine came with the bike and is a '64, the "frame number" will begin with CA78. ...

I have seen them mounted on top of some of the covers that go on the front edge of the front fender. There are examples of the covers in the Honda accessory books from the early '60's.
