O-rings?
Sascha, what is the condition of the o-rings at the carb/head junction? New o-rings at this location can often solve frustrating air leak issues. I should know.

Position 2 is of no value. The measurement is from the TOP of the carb body, not the "gasket surface." This is shown clearly in the official shop manual. Because of the way these carbs work, you can have a problem that presents itself at speed even though it idles fine. This is due to the different route the fuel takes depending on throttle position.
