No problem. I've seen them on CB175s and the like and they are, dimensionally, the same part.

Not seen one on a CB77, though.

Thank you for the kind offer. As with pretty much everything on this bike - the fork lock cover is unique. There is no cover flap and no hole for the pivot. I have one that I can modify but I think the shape is a little different, too.

A slight hijack here (sorry). I had read quite a while ago that the last CB77's had a plastic fork lock cover. Any confirmation on that? Pictures? Thanks, Chase

Thanks LM and G. Chase

Attending to a few detais this weekend. I find it easier to see what needs doing once the bike is up together.

First up are the little tab washers that lock the brake stay bolts. My original brake stay was drilled near the bolt holes and the tab washers have a little dimple punched into them to locate with that.

Image

I drilled some holes (1/16") and then used a masonry nail to punch the holes into the hole in a spare stay. I'm not sure why these holes are there as the part has little 'wings' that locate around the brake stay. They got deleted later on nut I wanted those little holes to be evident on this bike.

Image

You can hardly notice when the stay is on the bike, but I feel better about it now.... :-)

Next job was to convert a steering lock cover to the earlier type by removing the little door and welding up the pivot hole. The cover I chose was particular nasty and pitted but I didn't want to sacrifice a nice one.

Image

After welding up the hole I gave the cover a good clean up and poish to remove the pits.

Image

It came up quite nicely.

Image

With that done it was time to look at my collection of rear brake cables. I have collected a few but none are quire right. The 1961 cable is black with a grease nipple. The only one that meets that spec is the original but the vinal covering is torn and the fittings are rusty.

Image

The only course of action is to unsolder the npple on a couple of cables so that I can combine the desired features in to one cable. A bit drastic but the only way I am going to get a nice cable with the correct look.

I have ordered some Epsom Salt so that I can have a go with zinc plating to freshen up the cable fittings.

The deed is done now and I might go that route if this doesn't work out. I''ve taken the rear nipple off two cables and have ordered some 3mm 'inner' in case I have to start anew with that.

I'll get the ferrules & fittings freshened up and see how it rurns out. Every little detail requires so much work on these.
