Thanks, G-Man, for the explanation. It's as I thought.

I've been busy with yard work and other things, so I haven't been working on the bike much. I did pick up more parts from the painter and all that remain in his hands are the front fender and air cleaner door. I'll get them next week. I'll need to start assembly soon, if only to get the parts off the shelves and every available horizontal surface in my workshop. I really need the wheels at this point, but they're still at Central Wheel Components. It's been almost 2 months and I hope that I hear from them soon.

Small parts have been trickling in with one big disappointment. I purchased a NOS clutch adjuster from a vendor on Buyee that didn't pan out. Although the listed part number was correct (22841-266-000), it was just too big for its place in the right cover. I also noticed that the number on the face of the adjuster wasn't quite the same. Instead of "P14" it reads "P.14" (pic below). Oh well, another one for the miscellaneous parts bin.

Interesting. How much bigger is it?

It's close. I'll break out my calipers later and measure both adjusters. I can insert the new adjuster into the case about an eighth of an inch (with some difficulty) before it will go no further. The old adjuster fits fine.

Just taking a shot in the dark here -
Is it possible that material from the old one has built up on the inside of the hole decreasing its diameter? Wouldn't take much.

That's a good thought and one I had myself, so I checked, but it was clean. The old adjuster was not binding at all. I cleaned the hole with a Scotchbrite pad anyway.

The old adjuster measures 26.98 mm and the new one 27.06 mm - not much of a difference, but I also suspect that it is not truly round. If I could chuck it in my drill press, I could gently file it, but I'll have too think about how I might do that. Wish I had a lathe.

That is the right part and it is a close fit by design. Seadog don't give up the ship. I'd work both the new part and the hole with some red scotchbrite and clean it very carefully. Then try to kinda screw it in with some light lube like Blaster. When seated it doesn't have to spin or even rotate freely, you just have to be able to turn it with the special tool you made for the weird slot.
