Starter works!

Sometimes it's the little things in life...
The only reason why the starter didn't work is because power wasn't applied to the other relay terminal. I'll wire it up properly.

Compression! I set the valve lash and ignition timing and managed to measure 150 psi on both cylinders. Next up, draining the oil and freeing the clutch.

Thanks again to LoudMouse's vital advice, I also replaced the clutch plates and springs - a previous owner had put the wrong ones in there(!) which is why the clutch was locked up. Unfortunately I managed to break a bolt off in the clutch center and had to get a new one, but it's all good because it did cause me to pause long enough to get that vital advice from LM. The clutch now engages and disengages correctly, though it's still quite stiff compared to my '13 DL650. I hear that's just how these are. Next up - cleaning the oil strainer, putting new blood into the engine, replacing the control cables and seeing if I can get the engine going - maybe in the next week or so.
I'll post some videos of those steps in the next week. I'm headed to a weekend camp-and-ride which is probably the last one of the year now that the temps are dropping. Good times!
