Ran fine for a year fine, then kicker went out.
Tore it down, replaced kicker, used same bottom end, etc.
Put on 175 jugs and pistons, same head and cam (cleaned up).
Ran like a beast for 9 months with no chirp, but always was erratic at idle.
Then the chirp set in. First minor, now major.
Thanks for responding!
Top ideas:
Intake leak
Cam chain
Cam bearing
Bottom end bearing of one type or the other.

Does the noise change at all when you pull and hold the clutch lever?

I'd check the easy to get to stuff before dropping the motor. From your flickr photos you are not running an electric starter, right? I would remove the left cover and make sure the starter sprocket isn't rubbing on 28117-216-000 the setting plate. Also make sure if your starter clutch still had its rollers/springs/caps that they are not causing issues, or that the starter clutch screws aren't backing out and rubbing their heads on the sprocket.

On CB77's That I've run without a starter, the stamping that's used to position the starter sprocket is installed to control side to side movement. It's also been drilled and tapped for a 6mm bolt to engage the teeth, keeping the sprocket from rotating, just as if it would be if a starter was installed. Regards, Chase

Wow, I didn't even consider starter remnants causing this. Thanks!

I think you mean #6 on page 2 here.
I can't say I even know what this part is, or what it does, but will take a look.
