A little Mothers Aluminum polish can work wonders on those covers. If they're rough a little sanding will make em like a mirror. A bit arduous, but wonderful results for a simple task. I can give you a step by step if you aren't familiar with sanding aluminum.

i had trouble getting the clutch to disengage before i tried to ride it. LM and i chased it down to the right side cover. i hadnt installed any of the kick start related parts back on the cover after bead blasting (only installed the clutch adjuster). fixed that problem by using a different cover with the kick start pinion gear/spring still on it. i just blasted and painted a rotor cover for now instead of polishing it.

at first, she sounded good at idle and revving without load, but it was misfiring on the right side while riding. i replaced a leaky carb float and moved both needle clips to the middle position. she's been idling poorly and misfiring when returning to idle from low speed. i'll figure it out eventually...

i caused a small leak from the bottom of the left cover after removing/installing it several times. the past few weeks, i found a new leak that seems to accumulate on the left side exhaust collar. i think i lost the small gasket on the tach cable and it's letting some oil trickle down the engine.

she shifts pretty well, but sometimes sticks between gears if i dont shift firmly. the brakes fade when doing a lot of city riding. a few times, the bike has gotten too hot and i've experienced a loss of power. i'm guessing that was clutch slippage?

Looking really good! BTW, what are those tires you're using? Are they the Michelins? If so, how do you like them?

I've had similar situations with the shifting, in terms of having false neutrals from time to time. Don't know if it's the transmission parts wearing, or you just need to be firmer in your shifting. Mine usually happens between 2nd and 3rd, but it's only once in a while.

As far as losing power when the bike gets 'too hot', I can't say that I've ever had that happen, and we all know how hot it's been this summer (how do you know when your bike has gotten too hot?). Might be some other phenomenon going on....

i wanted to replate everything, but i dont have access to a chrome tank. i know all i really accomplished by polishing the chrome bits was temporary rust removal and exposed more steel to the environment. anything aluminum was bead blasted, most were polished with white diamond.

tires are gazelles (2.75/3.00). besides the garage gremlin stealing air out of the tubes, i cant complain. unfortunately, i have no prior riding experience to offer any helpful feedback on them.
