Hi Jensey
Paint and dirt? In the disassembly pictures? You can Presume I assembled the motor using basic mechanical hygiene. I don't like doing work over. Have a great day!

I think what he was getting at is you seem to have painted the gasket face, that should be bare metal (masked off), along with paint/debris in the threaded hole.

Thanks Malcomb.
I plug openings rather than masking with tape. Spark plug holes with old spark plugs, intakes and exhausts with rags. It may not be everyones way but thats how I do it. Before I install the tensioner I will wipe down the flange with thinner as I had planned. It is my habit to test fit all screws nuts and bolts with my fingers before putting a driver to them to check for clear threads and to avoid galling. My clumsy method must work. This is only my first CB77 but my sixth old Honda refurb or restoration and although I've had to remove many dozens of seized and rounded fasteners I have yet to ruin a thread.

These gaskets showed up yesterday so I spent some time today cleaning up the pump and screen housing. The old gaskets were real stubborn and it took at least a half an hour with the wire wheel to get the screen housing clean. After a short nap I will head back down to the shop and take care of that flange. I am pretty sure, (I'll double check though.) the threads are okay now.
