Yes, it was Browns Plating - and cost were about double. The pipes and shields were approx $700, but the result is twice as nice as what the local guy could do. It's a tough decission, but I have enjoyed this project and decided that the bike was going to get these.

Yes, that is my 1972. I bought it as-is with 3,100 original miles - still has the factory tires, paint, seat, and chrome. I've managed about 300 more miles in the last 6-7 years. I have a hard time getting friends to help with the little ones. When I have friends over, they want to get on the bigger bikes.......

You wouldn't have that problem if I was in your posse, I'd love to get on one of those again.
After I got back from Viet Nam in 1971 the first bike I bought was a used R-5 that same gold color.
I did a mild cafe treatment to it and upgraded the tires (K-82s as I remember).
It was one of the most fun bikes I've ever owned, I was living in Ojai at the time and it was perfect for scratching around on the So Cal mountain highways around there.
I still had delusions of being a racer in those days though and made the mistake of trying to production road race it and ruined it.
Great memory anyway, thanks for reminding me.

PS.... Great looking collection and the chrome on that fender looks like liquid silver.

Ronnie Brown is the best -- he seems to use a lot of copper in his plating, as his chrome looks very 'warm'. I don't use anyone else - yes, he is a bit pricier than others, but you get top-drawer quality and customer service. Plus 7-10 day turnaround, always returns phone calls....can't think of another chromer who offers that!

Nice collection! The R5 was my first bike, kind of caught my eye:) I would love to find one in a barn someplace under a layer of dust.
