I am pretty happy with the way the Dream is running right now - sure, the carb needs some tweaking for mid-range and the brakes are pretty poor (need new shoes) and a pair of mirrors is on order - but she scoots down the road just fine!
I spent the afternoon with 'paint restorer', metal polish, and Turtle Wax to get her cleaned up for an antique motorcycle (and car) show on Saturday.
When the weather gets too cold for riding it will be time to tear it all apart again and give her a new coat of paint to fit the "hippie bike" image in my mind's eye.
I should probably take the bike completely apart and strip, prime, and paint each piece individually but I am wondering if I could get away with lots of masking tape and plastic sheeting and leave most of it together?

You know what, your Dream is growing on me! I might need one of those bikes. And a Scrambler!

You'll hate yourself if you don't strip it down for painting...... :-)
Unless you go for "hippy rat bike" and just paint the whole lot at once and stick some flowers on it.....

I got a used replacement carb from a salvage dealer a week or so back and, since the show is over, I put it on the Dream today. It seems a lot better than the original - starts fine, idles nice, sounds good at low RPM - but didn't get a chance to get it out for a ride today - TOO HOT! (Really, Sept. 21 in Manitoba and too hot to ride! Who'd'a thunk LOL!)

Got the Dream out for a ride yesterday and I STILL have an intermittent miss at mid-range throttle even with the second carburetor! That means it is probably not a mixture issue.
I guess the next step is to put the 'scope (digital storage oscilloscope) on the ignition coil and check for missing pulses, then to check the high tension leads for any leakage.

Hi - I think it could still be a mixture issue unrelated to the carburetor. I didn't look down through your whole thread, but I do notice aftermarket mufflers on there. They may not be giving the same back-pressure as OEM. A non-OEM or dirty air filter can have an effect too. You could try to run it without the air filter to see if that makes a difference (better or worse). I'd also try a different needle position to see if any effect.
