Thanks Randy, I plan to pull the jet this weekend and check it out. I did pull the mixture screw for that carb tonight and found gas dripping from the tip. Is this a further indication of a plugged idle jet?

Thank you for the reply. Correcting the wiring will hopefully help with the starting issue and prevent arcing of the right points that I noticed while trying to time the points.
