Last post for the time being. Here are the original CL77 damper bodies, rechromed with new sleeve nut and seal holder with new 10 x 22 x 7 seal inserted.

I tried flipping the front cover over (the one stamped with the position markings) and it actually seemed to help a little bit - I also doubled up the spring and that also seemed to help a bit but in the end it will not fully shut off. There is always eventually a drip.

So - no luck - I am now ...

Yes I am - at the moment its on 'monitor'. There isn't really anything to these, so it should be able to do a 100% seal. I'll circle back to it once I get some other things sorted out first - still just putting check marks in boxes as I go over the bike front to ...

The petcock in the picture hasn't been altered, the raised material, in two places, is plenty to keep the disc located.
That's what was found out after further investigation - it was indeed unaltered.
