How to get the clutch to disengage? Cover replacement...right crankcase cover installationTo All,
I replaced a broken right crankcase cover. I need to know how to get the clutch to disengage when installing the cover. I'm new at this and have no experience working on motors. it was my dad's bike and I'd like to make it work. Re: right crankcase cover installationI am not quite sure what you are trying to accomplish. Is it just to reassemble? Are you talking about the cable removal? You do not need to disengage the clutch to install the cover, although you may need to back off the adjustment on the case. Did you make sure the 1/4 inch steel ball bearing is inside the lifter assembly where the clutch rod goes?
Screw both cable adjusters IN as far as they will go. Loosen the bolt (10mm head) on the case and with a large screw driver turn the adjuster right/left/right then move it back (left) 1/8 inch and tighten the bolt. Using the cable adjusters adjust the lever to apx. 1/4 inch free play. Lets start from the begining. What model and year bike...............
The adjustments are made after the cover is on, Look on the right cover there will be a 10mm bolt head that you will need to loosen, this will let you move the big circle with the slot in it. Use a big srewdriver and follow previous instuctions.
