CL77 front forksCL77 front forksHi,
Am rebuilding my '65 CL77 which has badly locked up front forks. I have made a spanner wrench to remove the chrome collars but am having trouble getting the rods out of the housings. Since the seals are in the collars, and there is no retaining bolt in the end of the housings like a CB77, How do I get the rods out of the housings? Are they supposed to just pull out? I thought about using a slide hammer of sorts to try and pull them out but wanted to know if this is the proper approach. I would like to salvage the housings. Thanks, Gary Gray '65 CL77 Owner
CL77 forksIn case you're interested, I got the forks apart.
If you need specific info on how this is done. post a request in reply to this posting and I'll explaine the procedures. Really, it's not that bad a job. BTW, I am attempting to swap out my CL77 fork rods with those from a CB77. So far, so good. I'll keep you posted as to how it all goes together. Gary '65 CL77 Owner
fork disassemblyMacgyver5,
If you can give me an idea where you are with the forks, I can try to walk you through the procedure. I.e., Are they locked up? Are they still on the bike? Have you tried to get them apart? Gary '65 CL77 Owner
CL77 forksAre the holes in the seal housings good?
If so, a pin wrench (Spanner type) is best to use. I made my own. Also a strap wrench is useful to unscrew them. They are RH threads. You might have to clamp the slider in a vise but DO NOT clamp where the piston on the fork slides. Clamp at the axle mounting location so as not to damage the tube. Use some good penetrating oil like KROIL and let it soak for a while before trying to unscrew them. Havre you tried any of the above?????? Gary '65 CL77 Owner
