Black 1967 Superhawkthanks for the complements guys!
i was trying to line up the punch marks perfectly on the outside from the previous owner but missed when i put the cover on. the kick start cant be used anyway because of a hairline fracture =( so i took it off not to tempt myself... also a bummer is the slightly taller 13" progressive shocks dont play nice with the oversize tire in the back with the current chain length. too little space between the fender, center stand and the tire (you can kind of see in some pics). so im going to powdercoat the 12.5" betor shock springs an obnoxious yellow and put them back on and hope i can negotiate that oversize tire better with a new chain. pics coming when i can get around to it. -dave hey all, its been awhile.
ive been busy developing a website, so not much time for tinkering as id like, but i have done some work done on this thing since the last time. replaced the rear tire tube since fremont honda just decided to throw the old rotten one back in and it wouldnt hold air. that makes both tires they have messed up! i have switched out the carb bodies for a replacement set with new keyster screws. the air screw and throttle slide adjustment is much more even now. i got some mildly okay cb350 rear shocks to replace the tore up and leaky betor ones that i had. (new skinny rear suspension coming from dime city cycles soon) also ive installed the boretech electronic ignition as well as replaced the coils and wires as i was really fighting many timing gremlins. after installation the bike runs and sounds so much better! the advance springs i replaced from classichondarestoration.com seem a little weak on the return and i feel are messing with me a little bit. can anyone confirm that these are the correct strength? The CHR springs are NOT correct. Search my name on the forum and you can read all about my advance spring battle with my CB77, which I finally won. You will never get it ruining right until you get those springs correct. They are a huge design weakness in the bike, and are external on all later CBs or a reason. PM me if you won't to talk. thanks jlovvorn for the confirmation about the classichondarestoration.com advance springs.
ive had the feeling they have been f'ing with me this whole time. DO NOT use them. i have it pretty much dialed in after trial and error, but it still has a hard time returning to idle and staying put there. now im not too happy about having to pull the top end to fix them (you hear that tim mcdowell!?!) but i think returning them to the originals (or NOS if i can find them) will make a huge improvement in how this machine operates from a dead stop. some minor body tweaks after test riding it around a bit. i have taken off the near pristine chrome rear fender to protect it from the oversize tire i have on the back currently. it would be a shame if it got damaged from some bumps in the road. im toying with the idea of vaccu-forming a plastic replacement just to protect the underside from road grime. also i have a side mounted license plate while the fender is off and shorty mufflers to accommodate the new license plate. im keeping everything bolt on in order to return it to stock whenever i want. hi res pic of the bike as it sits coming soon. and pics of the advance spring replacement as well i suppose, since i have to do it again...
