Kickstart Hits Brake Pedal...Doh!

Post by wordman5 » Mon Jun 09, 2008 10:00 pm

Didn't know which section to post this in, so it's here as it's brake related.
Just got my rear brake pedal and cable all hooked up on a 1966 CB77...and adjusted nicely. Now, when the kickstarter goes through its travel, it hits the brake pedal. Is this a common condition?
I had two brake pedals to choose from in the 'parts' box, both seemed exactly the same length, and not at all bent.
And, I was very careful about making sure the kickstarter marks were all lined up when I put the cover on the right side of the engine.
By looking at the pedal/starter arrangement, it looks like the brake pedal would have to move out more than half an inch for the starter to clear. And I'm sure that's not right.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Wordman, here's a couple pics of mine. Hopefully you can see where your problem lies from these pics. If not, please post similar pics of your right sidecover, and we'll see what we can figure out.

Well, looks like somebody thought the brake pedal was bent, and straightened it!
Darn, and both of mine were the same -- straight.
Guess that right there would be the problem.
Thanks for the pics -- most helpful, Davomoto.
